These tutorials cover three related activities: defining a process, presenting its data in reports, and observing the instances created when that process runs. Start with a simple test case so that you can identify which step produced each result.

Before opening the modeler, write down the trigger, the expected outcome, the people involved and the information exchanged between tasks. The process design guide helps you prepare that structure. Use fictitious data for the first execution.

  • Model: confirm that each task has a clear purpose and that transitions lead to the intended next step.
  • Data: check which values enter and leave the process, using the input and output reference.
  • Reports: verify that a report reads the intended data and that its filters match the question you want to answer. Consult the reporting guide as you build it.
  • Execution: start a test instance, follow its tasks and compare the observed state with the model. Use the monitoring guide when investigating an unexpected result.

A report and a running instance answer different questions: the report presents selected information, while the instance shows the progress of a particular execution. Check both when validating an automated workflow.
